Autism dance group AWA earns standing ovation.

The Greatest Dancer (TGD) is a dance competition televisied by the BBC and was created by Simon Cowell, the famous creator of the world famous franchise
Australias Got Talent series.

Simon wanted to encourage dance acts to perform live weekly with a studio audience in a competition to win £50,000, and a chance to perform on Strictly Come Dancing that is held in the UK.

The first series aired on BBC One on Saturdays in 2019 and was won by 14-year-old solo dancer. A second series premiered this January of 2020.

And what an opening it proved to be..

An inspiring autism dance group came on the scene with real attitude, Autism With Attitude, aka AWA, and they brought their talents to the big stage of  The Greatest Dancer with the support and encouragement from their dance teacher, Johnathan. All of the members of this autism dance group, are on the Autism spectrum. This incredible dance group has allowed each of them to express themselves through art.

AWA took their dance skills to The Greatest Dancer and letting the whole world see what they can do.

At first, the dancer is hidden behind a wall. As they start to perform, the audience is given the chance to vote on the audition. If more than 75 percent of the audience likes the dancer, the mirrored-wall will open and the dancer moves on to the next round.

One of the dancers’ mothers described their goal as;

“They just want to prove to everyone that regardless of your abilities and your capabilities, that you can achieve anything.”

And as soon as the music started, AWA showed off their hip-hop skills and easily won the crowd over. Before too long, the votes zoomed in from their energetic and stunning performance that took them on to the next round.

After the performance, one of the judges remarked by saying,

“You came out with passion, with force, with fearlessness. And you did exactly what your mum said before. No matter your ability, no matter what’s going on, if you put in hard work and dedication, you can achieve your dreams.”

This demonstrates that with the right people around you and with enough passion, that your capabilities and talents can take you to places that you may never had imagined.

Where do you want to go today?
